The State Government have recently ripped away millions of dollars worth of subsides for Council programs to build community based infrastructure.

At a time when our Cities and Shires in Wright are facing unprecedented growth, forced on us by the State Government, this decision is the single most reckless impact of Labor’s mismanagement of our finances.

It comes as no surprise that the Labor Government has squandered our State’s wealth and destroyed the economy in boom times; they lack financial skills. But to inflict harm on Councils struggling with the costs of amalgamation and bursting with infrastructure problems shows a lack of understanding.

In typical Labor style the Minister for Local Government says Councils just have to find ‘alternative revenue streams’. Alternative revenue streams means following Labor’s lead and raising taxes and rates on struggling working familles.

There are many programs the Government has slashed and destroyed. The worst example of their recklessness was the safety program which actually did the State Government’s policing job of implementing programs like installing safety cameras and feeding the footage back to Police HQ.

The most curious part of Labor’s incompetence is the recent announcement by ‘Chairman Kevin’ that he now wants to take over urban planning. It seems his State Labor mates are so blazingly useless that he’s forced to interfere once more.

The Federal Government’s urban planning intervention will cost money and one supposes Federal Labor will only raise taxes or borrow more money to pay for that exercise as well.

I have no faith that Mr Rudd can do it better then other Labor Governments.

My preselection campaign has been about building infrastructure and partnerships with other levels of Government to deliver outcomes for our community. Councils will find it difficult to deliver services without State Government partnerships, but it just means we will have to rearrange our priorities. Looks like an even tougher fight for me moving forward.

In four short months we have had success in our local campaigns to bring services to our community, for example embarrassing the State Government into building passenger rail to Beaudesert.

It seems the only way for our community to get action and have the State and Federal Governments recognise the importance of looking after our community is to embarrass them in the media.
