Over the years there have been many concerns about the general road safety of Cusack Lane, Jimboomba. My new electorate now takes in the Jimboomba region, and whole area is new to Logan since we were amalgamated in 2008.

One priority of mine since being elected has been to conduct a road safety audit on Cusack Lane and prioritise repairs.

In Committee this week I commended Council Officers for working hard on finding solutions to the problems associated with Cusack Lane. A report was presented on Cusack Lane’s condition and an action plan for repairs was presented.

I truly believe that band-aid solutions won’t be adequate to fix the problems on Cusack Lane. It is important that Council immediately reviews all developments that have been planned for the district and ensure Developers are properly contributing to the repair and upgrade to this potentially dangerous road.

In the past there have been a number of accidents on Cusack Lane, including a fatality. Residents have reported that they have witnessed vehicles speeding and that a large number of accidents remain unreported.

Council can never build a road to cater for reckless driving. Council can, however, build safer roads, ensuring the road condition doesn’t contribute to accidents.

Some of the work that will be undertaken includes;

  • Road edging to be improved
  • Line marking upgrades
  • Sign placement and improvement
  • Guardrails installed or improved
  • Improved vision and sight line changes
  • Council has not yet budgeted for all of the work that needs to be done on Cusack Lane. In next year’s budget I hope to ensure enough money is sourced from my Divisional Improvements funds for this work to commence. Other sources of funds may be found, but that will require hard work and more lobbying.

    When I was elected in 2008 I made three local roads a priority for being fixed; Teviot Road, Goodna and Ison Road intersection and Cusack Lane. Five million dollars was announced in this year’s budget for Teviot Road and Goodna and Ison Road intersection upgrades.

    Our next goal as a community is to finally see improvements being made to Cusack Lane.
