Over the weekend I attended the Australian Dirt Bike Adventure Flagstone Trail Bike Extravaganza.
I travelled to the location with our local Chamber of Commerce President, Greg Birkbeck, to get a better understanding of this increasingly popular sport and how the event was organised.
Most semi-rural residents understand the issues associated with noisy trail bikes. I have often commented about this issue in the local media.
Events such as this where people of all ages can ride in a controlled environment is one way we can ensure people take their bikes out of council reserves and backyards and ride them away from residential properties.
The event was well planned by Ray Buchanan from the Australian Dirt Bike Adventure Group. I sincerely commend all the organizers, the property owner, the lessee and adjoining properties for their cooperation.
Council supported the event because we need people out of back yards and into large properties where noise, amenity and safety can be better managed.
What a hoot it was too! I was taken around the 30 KM circuit on a quad bike (Rhino) by Ray and had a load of fun. I now appreciate why so many people enjoy this sport and endorse Council finding permanent venues in South East Queensland to ride their bikes in a controlled environment.
