Over the weekend Australians turned out en mass in Brisbane to help defend a Jewish business that was under attack purely on the grounds that it was Jewish. Today the left continued their abuse, taking to social media to deride and attack me for the stance that I took in defending Israel’s right to exist.
Many people are not aware of this, but the Australian Greens have a policy supporting the global BDS. What does this mean? BDS is the fancy universally recognised acronym for Boycott Divestment Sanctions. What does that mean? Well, in its simplest terms the BDS is international extremist movement/campaign with an aim to boycott Jewish businesses because of their links to Israel.
A great story about the BDS can be found by following this link to The Australian.
Yes, you heard right. A global campaign targeting Jews. “BDS” is just the politically correct way of coining the phrase.
One would be forgiven for thinking the year is 1920’s Germany or perhaps news footage of yet another conflict in the Middle East. But the year is 2011 and we are in Brisbane Australia. On Saturday 27th August 2011, racism of the worst sort reared its ugly face on our shores.
A group of Socialist/Green activists, laden with extremist propaganda set march to Southbank heading straight in the direction of an unassuming, law abiding, taxpaying chocolate shop known as Max Brenner. With banners in hand the angry protestors stormed what is an otherwise fairly quiet an uneventful cafe precinct chanting, shouting and hurling anti-Semetic hatred through their loud speakers.
Their bid to obstruct and block the innocent business’ trade by barricading themselves around the shop failed, as the awaiting police contingent shooed them into a confined pen where they stood clearly outnumbered three to one by the counter protestors. With the protection of the good men and women of the Queensland police service, the protestors safely exercised their “freedom of speech” by hurling racial abuse that would see the average person on the street such as you or I referred to the Anti-Discrimination Commissioner.
In amongst all the taunting such as “Jews kill babies” and “Jews are terrorists” there was some mention about Max Brenner “deserving of the attack” because they provide Israeli troops with food ... haa...aah?
It is undeniable that the BDS is a similar policy to those seen in Germany through the 1920’s and 1930’s. That period in Germany was dominated by Nazi policy. This point has been made by the Attorney General of NSW and Senator Ron Boswell, two of Australia’s most senior politicians.
My family and I were at the front of counter-protests against this affront to our democracy. On twitter this morning and in the paper I stated that the Greens were Nazi like in their endorsement of the BDS policy.
My views started a torrent of abuse on twitter, all of which I am happy to take in my stride. It seems the keyboard warriors are much braver than their counter parts who quickly scurried away after their sad protest on the weekend. As Margaret Thatcher once said, “I always cheer up immensely if an attack is particularly wounding because I think, well, if they attack one personally, it means they have not a single political argument left.”
There were many perspectives shared about my views on the Greens agenda, and what it means for Australia. I firmly believe we should never surrender our moral high ground on this issue, and I responded with as much force to counter the vitriol that thrown my way.
On twitter people questions my views on the Greens/Nazi link this way;
@djackmanson David Jackmanson; @HajnalBlack BDS calls for the boycott of a nation that viciously oppresses the Palestinians, not the destruction of the Jewish people.
David forgot to mention, probably because twitter only gives him 140 characters, that Israel merely defends its borders from terrorist attack. The terrorist attacks that started the day after Israel was formed in 1948 have continued to this day. They have only abated because Israel has run numerous incursions into its neighbours and rooted out terrorist cells throughout the Middle East. The reality is boycotting Jewish business is exactly how Hitler started in the 1920’s, this debate is not about human rights, but rather the right to exist.
Others tweets were not as subtle;
@FLEURCOLE Fleur Cole; Now I think we seriously need to entertain the possibility that @hajnalblack has a mental deficiency.
An interesting tweet from someone who lists on her self-styled profile that she is, and I quote; “Mother of 2, disobedient wife ...slut (her words not mine).... pork-a-holic, chook owner & knitter”
I often wonder if women kiss their children after the abuse that they hurl on Twitter? They should check their profiles before claiming I am the one that needs medical help. Never mind, our family survived the holocaust and European communism, heck just for added fun, I even had my legs broken in Russia so as to grow 8 centimetres taller. Left wing hate-bloggers aren’t going to scare this activist away, that’s for sure.
I wonder if this boy kisses his mother with those lips;
@alanzeino alan; Who let this fucking moron have a twitter account? “@HajnalBlack: I make NO apology for linking the #Greens and the #Nazi Party.”
However as the day got longer, the attacks became more personal;
@Gwillotine Gwillotine @HajnalBlack Hajna, you should hand over all your evidence to an appropriate authority. In your case your psychiatrist.
The left didn’t stop at medical taunts and comments about my IQ. Oh no, they even tried to start a campaign to have me thrown out of the LNP. I mean LNP HQ will be ever so interested to hear from the left about who we should and should not have in our party.
@cosmicjester cosmic jester LNP, revoke this woman's membership NOW RT @HajnalBlack I make NO apology for linking the #Greens and the #Nazi Party
It was right for one person to question my claim that I was taunted abuse and that various members of the Greens and Socialist Alliance yelled, "Jews kill babies", and "Jews are terrorists". They are stunning and horrible claims. If my claims are correct, then this day marks a horrible start to a long Australian battle on this issue. I will provide evidence from eyewitnesses that this was the case, but as the tweet below states, if claims are correct then it is classic 'blood libel'.
@glengyron Glengyron @cosmicjester @Trisha_Jha @HajnalBlack claims #BDS protesters chanted 'Jews Kill Babies' at Max Brenner. Classic European blood libel.
However some tweets were on a happier note;
@danik89 Danielle Harris @HajnalBlack is a really lovely woman who stood there on Saturday against awful abuses. She's courageous and I'm proud to be her friend.
Brant RipponGood on you Hajnal for standing up to the Nazi-like actions of the BDS! Blockading a private business because it is Jewish owned is VERY reminiscent of 1930s Nazi Germany, and something the far left should be ashamed of. Let’s not forget the full name of the Nazi Party, the National Socialist German Workers' Party.
And this, from the LNP's candidate for Stretton, Freya Ostapovitch;
Freya Ostapovitch Not just the greens. Labor too. My opponent David Forde in Stretton started the Labor for a Just Palestine faction and supports the idea of sanctions. He did not get the preselection for Labor so is running as an independent. He has a lot of support from the Islamic community but many peaceful Muslims do not want any part of racial or religious persecution, not even of the Jews, and are actually more concerned about the Carbon tax and the budget. See the Crescents newsletter. This protest on a business owner is absolutely disgraceful and many Muslims would agree!We do not need to bring this war to Queensland; we have our own local messes to clean up.
The moderate social media users among us gave a more considered opinion on my use of language. For instance these comments were posted on my facebook wall from a couple of really nice people that I know;
Dom Vasta; I've said before, the greens just aren't that smart, they'll jump on any left wing bandwagon, if it happens to be run by genuine anti-semites like Hamas, they don't really care. yes, what they're doing is wrong. No, I don't believe they want to round up all the Jews and to even suggest that makes you sound like an extremist. What we should be doing is pointing this out for what it is, clutching at straws to get attention. it just makes the SA look like idiots throwing around terms like "apartheid", don't lower us to their side by calling them "Nazis" even if you sincerely believe they are.
Mitchell McNamara; So Hajnal you're suggesting that several years down the track Senators Bob Brown, Larissa Waters etc. will call on Australian's of Jewish or Israeli heritage to be locked up in concentration camps and executed. I agree with you what the Greens have been doing by encouraging people to boycott the state of Israel and Jewish owned businesses such as Max Brenner is wrong. But to honestly compare this situation to the Third Reich and the holocaust is totally absurd.
These guys have a right to their opinion, but my fundamental position is this. If the Greens are allowed to continue the next natural step in their policy development is that they may join Israel's neighbors and demand 'Israel be wiped off the face of the earth' (which is the official Government policy of many Middle Eastern nations). The Greens are supporters of Israel's neighbors, so why is the extermination of Israel, the Jewish state, such a hard 'leap' to make? Is not the BDS similar to the policies of Germany in the 1920's? That link to Germany is the public view of many senior politicians in this country.
The righteous should never retreat from their moral high ground on the issue of Israel. To soften our resolve now will only allow these left wing extremists to gain momentum.
After expressing my views Mitchell, above, was more relaxed;
Mitchell McNamara I can certainly see where you are coming from Hajnal, and I honestly hope one day Israel finds the peace and solidarity that it has deserved and yearned for so long.
Another theme of tweets was Human Rights. The left constantly mix the issue of human rights and Israel’s right to defend itself. No one from the left has outlined a plan for Israel to seriously defend its borders other then with force. My Father fought in the Israel Army. He is a Christian and can claim that in regard to the two sides of the conflict he is perfectly placed in the middle. Dad says that constant attacks on border posts, where he served during the 1970’s, by fundamentalist extremists were the most horrific events he ever witnessed and strengthened his resolve to fight for Israel and defend the country against insurgents.
The day after Israel was formed in 1948 it came under attack from its neighbours. And despite consistent attacks Israel has been winning wars and expanding its territory since. No one can explain to me how defending your borders and protecting your civilians is an affront to human rights.
Why are the Greens on a bent against Israel and inextricably the Jews? It is well documented that many members of the left, including some in the ALP, a violently opposed to the state of Israel existing. As I mentioned, is not unreasonable to expect that perhaps once the Left of the ALP/Greens gain total power they will abandon Israel and demand that the Country be ‘wiped off the face of the earth’. Never again, never again should we allow this type of policy to develop. We need to cut these repugnant views off at their infancy, these extremists need to be exposed at the outset of their quest.
In my community there are some wonderful people who are members of the Greens. We share similar ideals, in particular on local farming practises, environment corridors, land protection, wildlife preservation, management of water and waste water and community vegetable gardens. Most of the local Greens activists I know are really decent people who only ever talk about the environment, a passion we all share.
I wonder when these decent folk in the Greens will stand up to reprehensible people like Senator Lee Rhiannon? If the decent environment loving members of the Greens do not take a stand soon, their party will drift further to the left, become more irrelevant, and all their hard work on the environment will be lost.
