Today in Council's Planning Committee Cr Russell Lutton, Deputy Mayor of Logan City, was suspended from the meeting because he refused to apologise for making a slur aimed at Hajnal Black, my wife, concerning her credentials as a Barrister.

Cr Lutton's comments were deeply offensive to me, and I know they are offensive to my wife. That is why I called for an apology.

Cr Hajnal Black (Logan City Council Division 11) today applauded her colleagues who unanimously supported her motion for a future report to come to Council which will outline 1) the Australian Green's BDS policy, 2) state a position of Logan city council to reject racism and 3) to ensure that the violence seen by BDS activists never reaches our city.

"As an Israeli born Australian I am proud to be living in a country that is free and democratic where race and religion doesn't affect ones ability to trade, these are core principals Australians share with Israel.

One of our local newspapers, the Albert and Logan News, this week published the hate mail and racist letter to the editor by Mr David Huggett of Tamborine that I have already blogged about. That blog and the hate mail can be found here.

Polls come and go. It's a fact of political life. I remember before the last election with Turnbull as leader the LNP were at 30% of the primary vote just 9 months out of the election. Abbott was appointed leader and they ended up with a 10% swing from that point in a few short months and scored 50% at the election, going within one seat of winning office.

However two polls that are out today are of great interest,

Councillors Sean and Hajnal Black will be hosting neighbourhood BBQ's in our community on Sunday 11th September. The BBQ 's are open to anyone in the community, and the Black family would like to invite your family along for a sausage sizzle and chat. Sean will be cooking the BBQ and as with most of their family BBQ's Hajnal will be cleaning up his mess.

This week the hate mail and personal attacks after my stand in support of Israel and against racism last weekend has come thick and fast. The attacks have also been targeted at my husband, also a Councillor at Logan City.

Members of the left have started a campaign to have me thrown out of the LNP for being pro-Israeli. There is very little chance that the left will ever influence who is and isn’t a member of the LNP. I am not so worried about that prospect.

On the first day of spring our minds turn to family renewal and beautiful pictures like our gardens. Hope is born, with stone fruit shedding their flowers and pushing through, the gardens springing to life generally and birds are happier, usually outside my window early in the morning.

As a public official in Australia’s 6th largest city, my mind turns to where Australia is headed and the mood among people across our nation; people are hurting because of the indulgence of our politicians and they are increasingly joining the push to reclaim our once prosperous and healthy nation.

Ben Fordham of 2GB has torn the arguments of Senator Lee Rhiannon’s policy of supporting the BDS apart in a telling interview that aired this afternoon. The full interview can be found on 2GB’s website here.

Today our Prime Minister was caught bleating about how average Aussies are expressing their views at Anti-Carbon Tax rallies. People are focusing on her, the instigator of the Carbon Tax, and not the issue itself, a great big fat tax on air she whines.
