Hajnal Black, Logan City Councillor, has today slammed the Premier’s announcement that her local community (Division 11) will go without passenger rail until after 2026.

Cr Black was responding to reports that the State Labor Government has announced they are only just starting to plan for a rail service to meet ur local public transport needs, but that any rail line does not ‘need to be built until after 2026’.

“This is typical Labor, they make these huge announcements yet they never back them up with funding or real action,” Cr Black said.

Cr Sean Black and Cr Hajnal Black today claimed victory in the battle to have Logan City Council back down on it controversial Animal Keeping Laws.

The two rural based Councillors scored an unexpected win when a motion proposed by Cr Hajnal Black to over turn the laws in their entirety was backed by a majority of Councillors at Tuesday's full council meeting.

A majority of Councillors agreed to the following motion that was presented to today's full council meeting;

That a report be prepared for Council's next round of committees that;

When Tony Abbott spectacularly burst onto the political stage and defeated Malcolm Turnbull at last year's Liberal leadership ballot, the debate over 'Climate Change' dramatically shifted.

It's dangerous ground for Julia Gillard to take Australians for chumps, people are less than passionate about 'Climate Change' now then they were before. And people are even less passionate about a 150 member assembly, as proposed by Gillard, deciding what to do about 'climate change'.

Previously I have blogged about the plight of the Mok family (their story here) who own a small convenience store on Cambers Flat Road, Park Ridge.

Today I supported a motion in the Roads and Infrastructure Committee that the Mok family be provided compensation, but it did not gain the support of a majority of Councillors. I was astonished that not even the local divisional Councillor voted for the motion.

At the start of this campaign I said that the issue of Julia Gillard knifing Kevin Rudd was not high on the mind of electors. As it turns out, I was wrong. In fact, to my surprise, most of the electors I have spoken to around the place actually think Julia’s treachery and cold and calculating ways are a massive turn off!

The theory is this; people didn’t like Kevin so they wanted the chance to punish him at an election. Julia beat them to it. That’s just not the Australian way.

Julia Gillard’s ‘Climate Change’ Policy, announced a few hours ago at Brisbane’s University of Queensland, is a flop.

The bones of the policy are this (as reported by the Courier Mail just now);

“ABOUT 150 ordinary Australians would be randomly chosen to develop the nation's response to climate change under a re-elected Gillard Government.

Julia Gillard will today pledge to set up a Citizens' Assembly to spend 12 months examining the evidence on climate change, the case for action and the consequences of putting a price on emissions.

When I tweeted today that, ‘small Australia may gain traction in Qld where population squeeze is a hot issue’, people replied that their impression was Queenslanders like growth. (Follow me on twitter).

Indeed Queenslanders are usually pro-growth. However as the Courier Mail points out in its editorial today, the problem with recent growth is that it has been mismanaged by the State Government.

The plight of the Mok family and their small business in Logan City is heart breaking.

The Mok family business, Sunrise Convenience Store and Takeaway, has lost up to 75% in daily takings since Logan City Council closed Chambers Flat Rd on May 31 this year for a major upgrade. Owners Pourngmarie Mok and her husband, Svang, said they were facing bankruptcy if business did not improve during the road’s expected 12-week closure.

Questions of Tony Abbott about Industrial Relations are persisting because it’s not an entirely believable position that Tony Abbott and his team agree that Labor’s workplace laws are the right ones for a strong economy.

It’s also true that not everyone believes that Labor can get the balance between managing an economy responsibly and pandering to the unions’ correct either. But people seem content with the economy at the moment, and are happy with Labor’s IR regime. For now.
