Please find below important information that affects residents of Division 11, Logan City. I have been working on many issues in Council that relate directly to improving the services and infrastructure of our area. If you have a concern or want me to post information on my site that is important to you, please email me at hajnal@hajnalban.com .

Kerb side pickup for our community

A link to council's kerbside pick up can be found here. This is for Munruben, Park Ridge South, North Maclean, South Maclean, Greenbank, New Beith in the month of April.

Up-grades to Bushman Drive, Flagstone

Roads and infrastructure improvements in Division 11 have been my main priority since being elected to Council first in 2004 and again in 2008. Recently I inspected works being completed on Bushman Drive, Flagstone with Infrastructure Chairperson Cr Ray Hackwood. See picture here.

The works at Bushman Drive will cost $300 000 which is being funded from council’s Gravel Road Safety Programme.

The 1.5km of road will have a number of treatments completed including widening, improving the drainage, bringing in better quality gravel, fixing the alignment problems, and clearing hazardous trees that are too close to the road

Work is due to be completed in 4-6 weeks dependant on the weather.

Council’s road programme is being severely compromised by the cut backs in State Government funding. Ensuring Federal and State Government funding of local communities will be a key election issue at the next Federal election.

Heavy Vehicle Parking

Logan City Council is seeking feedback on changes to Local Laws regarding heavy vehicle parking. The proposed changes will have significant impacts in the former Beaudesert areas. Council has finalised its public consultation and has now set up an advisory group to work through the significant community feedback raised while we talked to the community.

Currently, the Beaudesert Shire Council Local Laws still apply in the former Beaudesert areas. As part of the Local Government Reform process, all planning instruments and local laws will need to be amalgamated. This means that one set of Local Laws will apply right across the city.

The proposed changes will have significant impacts in the former Beaudesert areas if adopted by council. Council will consider all submissions before making a decision. I will be posting more information here shortly.

If you follow the links below you will find some council documents that outline the proposed Local Laws.

Information about if these laws effect you can be found in this council document.

Information on how local laws effect parking of heavy vehicles on public roads can be found in this council document.

Pokies

An application for 40 gaming machines has been made by AHL, who are linked to Woolworths, operators of the tavern being built at the Pub Lane shopping centre complex. Council has not yet formed a public position on this gaming machine application. However, as an individual and local resident, I will be informing the Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing (OLGR) that I am opposed to additional pokies in our community. I will make my submission public on this website soon.

It is important that all members of the community who oppose these machines write to the OLGR and register their objections. The instructions on who to do this are below.

To ensure our community does not suffer from these machines, it is vital we put an end their spread through community action. Subscribe to my newsletter using the form on the contact page and be kept informed of latest Division 11 news and information on pokies in our community.

How do you object to the pokies at Pub Lane?

1) Letters should be addressed to:

Michael Sarquis
Executive Director
Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing
Locked Bag 180
CITY EAST QLD 4002

The OLGR have advised that they are happy to accept email, the email address is: info@olgr.qld.gov.au

2) Content of comments

The OLGR's guide to submitting an objection to pokie machine license applications can be found by following this link.

OLGR have advised Council that they will consider any comment, with a higher weighting generally given to comments that are application specific and evidenced based.

Comments should be of a specific nature, detailing the potential impact on the local community, rather than broad objections to gaming machines in general.

If the community could give the OLGR specific examples of social disadvantage and how more gaming machines will affect the Greenbank Community it would be greatly appreciated.

Closing Date

Council has been advised by OLGR that the closing date for public comment on this application is 18 June 2009.

Petitions

The OLGR have advised that while petitions are able to be received by the office, much greater weight is given to individual submissions which provide detailed reasons for the objection.
