On Australia Day, like most Australians, I reflected on what it means to be an Aussie and how proud I am to live in the greatest country in the world.
Everyone has a different opinion on what makes them an Aussie and what they love about living in our great Land.
My family story is typically Australian. Just like 4 million other Australians since the Second World War, we immigrated here as part of Australia’s generous migration scheme.
The State Government have recently ripped away millions of dollars worth of subsides for Council programs to build community based infrastructure.
At a time when our Cities and Shires in Wright are facing unprecedented growth, forced on us by the State Government, this decision is the single most reckless impact of Labor’s mismanagement of our finances.
Over the last 8 weeks the Member for Beaudesert, Aidan McLindon MP, and I have been putting the pressure on the State Government over their abject failure to spend millions of dollars of Federal Government stimulus funding on upgrading the Beaudesert to Acacia Ridge rail line.
Over the years there have been many concerns about the general road safety of Cusack Lane, Jimboomba. My new electorate now takes in the Jimboomba region, and whole area is new to Logan since we were amalgamated in 2008.
One priority of mine since being elected has been to conduct a road safety audit on Cusack Lane and prioritise repairs.
In Committee this week I commended Council Officers for working hard on finding solutions to the problems associated with Cusack Lane. A report was presented on Cusack Lane’s condition and an action plan for repairs was presented.
In the surveys I recently sent to branch members the overwhelming majority of people responded by saying the 18-35 age bracket (generation X and Y) was the age group the LNP needed to ‘win over’ most.
How do we convince this generation of voters that the LNP is the only party that will secure their future and are the safest hands for our economy? How do we prove that we’re a party of renewal with sound polices for tomorrow?
Farming has been synonymous with Australia's development since settlement - and it continues to play an integral role in South East Queensland’s future.
Being a member of National Party and now the Liberal National Party, I pride myself on promoting a party that believes in the advancement of the rural sector and in assisting farmers whenever we can.
Back in Eastern Europe our families were self-sufficient, and both my parents grew up on small farms.
The New Zealand economy, led by newly elected National Party PM, John Key, has expanded for the first time in six quarters in the three months to June 30, ending the nation’s worst recession in three decades.
The Australian reported a week ago that, “with a fraction of the stimulus spending outlaid by the Rudd government, the battered New Zealand economy is on the verge of emerging from recession.”
Karen Andrews is the first federally preselected candidate by the new Liberal National Party. Karen was selected to represent the Party in the seat of McPherson. Congratulations Karen.
Over the weekend I attended the Australian Dirt Bike Adventure Flagstone Trail Bike Extravaganza.
I travelled to the location with our local Chamber of Commerce President, Greg Birkbeck, to get a better understanding of this increasingly popular sport and how the event was organised.
The ETS will most certainly put up-ward pressure on the cost of living. I have written before about the inability of the Federal Government to guarantee that food prices won’t increase under an ETS. Food is of major concern to local families, but some people haven’t realised the major impact an ETS will have on their rates bill.
